Quick Update on Grandma
Grandma is doing so well in just two week. She has 100 times more energy and is now queen of my paddocks. She is so adorable and is putting on weight so well for an old girl. She has the most amazing personality and thinks that trotting beside me while walking to the stables will get her there quicker even tho im still walking. She is a real character.

Gracie Arrives Home
Gracie was rescued in Coff's Harbour as well. We rescued her just in time as she was waiting to be loaded onto the dogger truck. She is a 19 year old TB mare, used and abused by the racing industry. We have full stables at the moment with 9 horses but Louise Tozeland's Abused Horses Retreat will be looking after her for a while.
A massive thank you to everyone involved in the Coff's Harbour rescue. You were all wonderful, both Gracie and Apollo are now safe. :-)
Apollo Arrives Home
Apollo is a surrender from Coff's Harbour. He was bought from the Grafton dogger sale on the 28th of May 2010, but his owner couldnt look after him and surrendered him to us. He is a 5 year old, 15hh OTT TB gelding. We will be assessing his temperment and having a vet and chiro look over him before adopting him out. Secret Rescue Mission ~ Complete
The Story of Dolly/Angel/Zoria:
The mare was purchased from the Casino Sales by a local knackery dealer. A dodgy dealer disguised as a horse rescue then posted everywhere that she needed donations to save this mare. It was a big scam. One of my very loyal supports sadly believed this dealer and donated the whole amount. ...Within hours of this mare being so called “rescued” she was on the market as a beginner’s horse for a larger amount of money. This dealer called me saying she needed the mare sold for that larger amount to cover costs, and that the loyal supporter needed to be repaid of her money which was not true. This woman was lying!!Anyway, this dealer couldn’t sell the mare so she returned her to the dogger pen. A week later the mare was with another dealer, only this time they said that the mare belonged to the dogger still and only had a week to be sold otherwise she would be slaughtered. This dealer did however have the mare on her property and she was running with a herd of horses including a stallion. So the advertisements read: Mare owned by dogger must be sold or will be killed. Has one week, but is in season and running with a stallion. This mare could be in foal..... WHO THE HELL DOES THIS??? It’s going to be killed so let’s put her in foal..... Anyway, she was advertised as very quite when in fact she isn’t VERY quite. She was advertised as a beginner’s horse and you guessed it, she isn’t suitable for a beginner. However, this mare wasn’t taken back to the dogger; she was sold to a young family as a beginner’s horse!!!
Ok, now this beginner gets the horse home and finds out she is def. NOT suitable for a beginner. The horse scares her and today she advertised that it will be dogged on Monday if not sold on the weekend. She tried many times to call the dealer she bought the horse off and not once did this lady call her back. The dealer even deleted the owner of the mare off her facebook page. This very dealer also calls herself a horse rescue; however, this is one story and living proof that she is nothing but a dodgy dealer.
Rescuing horses isn’t just about buying them from the slaughter houses; it’s about getting them better, letting them heal their mind, body and soul before finding them the perfect forever home.Today, with the very special help from the secret mission team (you know who you are) we finally rescued this mare. She will now rest with me for a while until she is 100% healthy. I will scan her to see if she is with foal and ill re-home her to a suitable home. We have re-named her Zoria which is a goddess of beauty. She has a new name, a new life and this is the end of a very sad story and the beginning of a new happy chapter in this horse’s life...

Rescue Horse of the Week ~ Buddy 2009
Each week we will profile a rescue horse from the past with an update on how the horse is going now.. This week we will profile Buddy ~ 12 year old TB gelding
Buddy came to me back in Sept 2009. His old owner called me saying she couldnt keep him and that he had a few problems. He was wormy and skinny but seemed like a real sweet boy. But Buddy had many problems. He hated the bridle and for the life of me i... could never get it on him. When i finally did, riding him was a complete mission. He would plant, walk back, rear up and wouldnt move forward. He wouldnt float and i spent many hour trying and trying. Jades friend Linny was helping me with exercising the rescue horses and one day she bought Jade along. Jade's first ride was on Tommy a little pony I had but he bucked her off.. hehe... he was only 13hh so it wasnt far to fall but Jade just wanted to get right back on....
But there was always some connection she had with Buddy and she was the only person who he would let put a bridle on him.
One day i decided to send him to a trainer but the little turd wouldnt get on the float.. After hours we gave up... But it was meant to be. Jade started doing some work with him and before long she was doing everything. Jade talked her non-horse parents into letting her adopt him and out of all the horses i have adopted out, this story is the most amazing. Its so hard to believe this is the same horse. Anyone that knew buddy when i first got him will understand.
The bond that these two have is truely incredibale, its inspiring and its proof that there is the perfect home out there for every horse, no mater what problems it has....

Rescued Just In Time
We rescued this mare from a stud in Coff's Harbour just in time. She was waiting for the dogger truck and yesterday afternoon i was waiting for a reply. I thought we had just missed her, but a lovely young supportor picked the mare up and she is waiting for Sydney Horse Transport to pick her up and bring her to the Gold Coast. She is 19 years old and a throw away TB broodmare named 'Talent time'.
We have had many rescue horses come in this week, so this beautiful old mare will be going out to Louise Tozelands Abused Horse Retreat in Tamborine Village. I will still keep everyone up to date with her progress and adoption and when she is ready she will be adopted out under a life time contract so that she never falls into the cycle of neglect again.

Another New Rescue Horse
We have another new rescue horse. This is Apollo, he is 15.2hh 5 years old and OTT. Apollo was rescued in May from the Grafton Dogger Sales and the lady who rescued him can no longer look after him. He was surrendered to S.A.H.A today.
He will be assessed and re-homed the the perfect forever home under our adoption contract. Please stay tuned for progress reports etc on this boy and he will be listed in the "Horses for adoption" section of this website once he is ready.

Freya is looking for a forever home
This beautiful mare was rescued from Rathdowney knackery on kill day back in March 2010. She has been with me for 6 months healing her body and heart and now she is healthy and ready for a loving forever home. Freya is 15.2hh, 10 years old and unbroken. She is very timid but learning to trust. She is just dying for someone to bond with. Freya is very scared of everything and is suitable for someone who is very experienced. She will be adopted to her new home under a life time contract. Feel free to contact me for more information. Rescue Horse of the Week ~ Harry 2010
Each week we will profile a rescue horse from the past with an update on how the horse is going now.. This week we will profile Harry ~ 24 year old STB that was left in a paddock to starve
In March 2010 one of my very good friends bought her first acerage house in Advancetown, but when she moved her and her horses and family in, they got a surprise. The last owners left their horse behind (and some chickens and a mini pig). When she contacted the owners they told her they couldnt take him and to dog him. Sad but true. So she called me, and i took him in. I named him Harry because he was a grumpy old man and Harry is a grumpy old man's name. Well, so we all thought anyway. Harry put on weight well and was re-homed to the lovely Mark and Vicki who own Yatala Produce (see contact details in the "supporters" section of this site). For a horse who's mum and dad own a produce store would be very much the same as a kid who's parents own a lolly shop.... They have called him "Prince Harry" and he is so spoilt and very much loved. Harry is a beautiful old boy, stubbon but very loveable. Vick and Mark are wonderful for taking this lovely horse in and offering him the perfect forever home.

UPDATE
Meet Joe ~ He is our new rescue. Joe is a 16hh 10 year old TB gelding and was surrendered to us due to his owner not being able to look after him. I have been told he was abused by his race trainer and is timid but today he was the perfect gentleman and quite smoochy. He is slighty needing a little weight, and his feet are pretty bad but other than that he seems fine. We will have a vet check him out, and assess his temperment before putting him up for adoption.
My registration to fundraise should be through very soon and we will be holding some fundraising events, both online and in the public ~ these will include events and raffles etc. Please keep an eye on the "how you can help" section of this site for more details. We are also interested in anyone who can donate items for our raffles ~ these can be anything and dont have to be horsey. Gift certificates, vouchers, hand made horse gear, bowbands, anything at all. Thank you so much for all of your support. We are looking forward to expanding and rescuing more horses. Please have a look in the photo gallery at some of the horses we have rescued and rehabilitated in the past 12 months.
We are also registering new names for people interested in becoming a foster carer. You will need to be in SEQ, own or rent your land (no agistment), have some horse experience and be willing to commit to a min of 6 months care. If you are interested in becoming a foster carer please email me you phone number, location, a bit about you and your horse experience and what type of rescue horses you think would best suit you and your family. saveahorseqld@yahoo.com.au
Medical update: Grandma ~ the most recent rescue is putting on weight well and is a real little character. She has lots of energy for an old, very poor mare which is just awesome. She has settled in well. Helix ~ The mini pony who lost his eye back in March is being gelded on Tuesday. Hope ~ The little yearling isnt doing so well emotionally, she is depressed.. But we are working on her with aromatheropy oils and she is improving. She has put on weight well. All of the other rescues are doing really well with nothing major to report.... :-)
We are struggling to find little chance a home. He is an aged brumby stallion with no teeth. Everything in the re-homing department is going against him but he is such a beautiful little horse who has never bonded with anyone, i feel sorry for him because he doenst know what love is, but deserves to be loved just like any other horse. His details are in the adoption section, please email or call me if you think you can offer him a forever home.
It looks like little Casper has found a loving new forever home. A massive thank you to Donna Elliot and her beautiful family. Another very happy ending.

She is quite to do anything with but very pushy on the ground. She will need an experienced rider to bring out her best. Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks. She should be ready late sept early october. Her photo is below. She came in very skinny and with nasty ulcers but she is healthy now, just needing to lose her fluffy coat which is currently falling out. She will be listed in the adoption section of this site in about 4ish weeks with all of her details as well as before and after photos. Please keep an eye out in that section if you are interested.
